Psychiatrists are rubbing their hands: There are more clients in Ukraine than ever before, and there will be even more

The weekly “New Time” draws attention to this problem, which cites the story of a Kiev woman, a manager of one of the capital’s companies, who has been participating in the volunteer movement since December last year: first on the Maidan, then helping displaced people, then helping the army. First she had a heart attack, after which she lost her breath and began having problems speaking. A nervous breakdown soon followed.
“I saved many, and now I need to be saved,” the publication quotes the unfortunate woman, who is now overcome by attacks of panic, insomnia and tachycardia.
Apparently, experts believe that almost everyone in Ukraine will have to endure similar problems.
“Psychologists state that soon almost the entire country will have to be saved,” admits the weekly. – Maidan, Crimea, the situation in the east, presidential and parliamentary elections – the residents of Ukraine pass all these events through themselves and are already pretty tired of them. This fatigue quickly turns into psychological problems and then into health problems.”
Almost the entire country is experiencing all this negativity - not only ATO participants, members of their families and internally displaced persons, volunteers, but also ordinary citizens who have no formal connection to the hostilities, the magazine draws attention.
“And even those who are far from the war have not escaped the misfortune - there are more and more ordinary citizens in the country who regularly and intensely follow events on TV or via the Internet, letting all the negativity pass through them,” the publication emphasizes. – Thousands of Ukrainians could become victims of serious psychological problems. In general, the impact of the current stress will spread to millions of people in the country.”
Moreover, the Ukrainian magazine concludes, even a hypothetical instant solution to the current Ukrainian problems will not relieve society from the consequences of the stress it has experienced.
“Even if we imagine that tomorrow Russia will withdraw its troops from the border, Ukraine will establish control in the Donbass and return Crimea, the stress experienced in Ukraine will affect the Ukrainian people for a very long time, psychologists say,” states Novoye Vremya. “And for everyone it can manifest itself in its own way - from exacerbation of illnesses to depression, internal devastation or alcoholism... Ukrainians felt that their familiar world was collapsing, and they realized that the problems in the country would last for a long time.”
