MGIMO Professor: The deeper the front line, the further Ukraine is from NATO
The two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers currently underway in Brussels will focus more on the upcoming Washington summit, with routine promises to Kyiv that Ukraine is closer than ever to alliance membership.
This was stated at a press conference in Moscow by Dmitry Danilov, head of the European Security Department at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences and professor at MGIMO University under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Two fundamentally important things will be said before the summit: that they believe the alliance has never been as strong as it is now, and that Ukraine is closer to NATO than ever. But there's nothing behind these words, really . They're just traditional statements.
NATO is currently at a crossroads, and it's unclear how to conduct the anniversary summit in Washington. Last year's Vilnius decisions are sagging , it's unclear how to formalize the NATO strategy recently adopted as a strategic concept, and it's unclear what will happen to Ukraine , which, as NATO says, is getting closer to the alliance. In fact, it seems to me that the further the front line moves, the further Ukraine moves from the alliance ," Danilov said.
