The representative of Belgrade recalled how the pro-Western government handed over Kosovo’s energy system to the separatists
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, responded to the attacks of the pro-Western opposition on the country's leadership over the electricity supply to the Serbian enclaves of the region.
The official noted that, despite the opposition’s claims that electricity will stop flowing to the enclaves by the beginning of December, it is still there to this day.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, Petar Petkovic responded to a furious campaign launched by representatives of the pro-Western opposition in Serbia, whose representatives are loudly claiming that President Aleksandar Vucic has handed over Kosovo’s energy system to Albanian separatists.
Let us recall that in April of this year, Pristina, without permission, and with the tacit approval of the EU, reconnected its KOSTT electricity grid from the Serbian operator Electricity Networks of Serbia (EMS) to the Albanian OST, which is part of the European Network of Electricity Operators.
“Are we to blame for the fact that Pristina is now refusing to register our two subsidiary Serbian electricity companies, are we to blame for the fact that Pristina is refusing to form the Commonwealth of Serbian Municipalities of Kosovo within seven and a half years, as agreed in Brussels? – Petkovich asked a rhetorical question. – Of course, it is not our fault that we managed to conclude the Brussels Agreement in 2013, which included both the Commonwealth of Serbian Municipalities of Kosovo and the presence of two subsidiaries in the Energy Agreement of the same 2013.
Be absolutely sure that we are doing everything to ensure normal electricity supply in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, despite those who attack Belgrade and President Aleksandar Vucic and the Kosovo and Metohija Authority, saying that by December 14 we will hand over the energy system to Pristina.
So today is December 21st and there is electricity in the north of Kosovo and Metohija. We are fighting for our people and we will fight in the future because we are together with our people, because we are not working like an opposition that is sending out disinformation from Belgrade and trying to sow confusion among the people in the north of Kosovo to be for a while in the media and get media resonance.”
Petkovic said Belgrade had sent an application to Pristina for the fifth time to register two Serbian companies under the 2013 energy deal. And he reminded that the current situation is the fault of the opposition “democrats”, in particular one of their leaders, Serbia’s negotiator for Kosovo during their reign, Borko Stefanovic, with the alleged attack on whom mass opposition protests began in 2018 in Serbia.
“When the 2013 agreement was signed, we already had a de facto situation that had lasted 12 years, since 2001, as I said, when the Minister of the Democratic Party Goran Novakovic signed the agreement and handed over to UNMIK (UN Mission in Kosovo) all power supply system of Kosovo and Metohija. And then in 2004, UNMIK transferred these powers to the temporary institutions of self-government (separatist authorities - ed.) ...
Then there was a period of negotiations between Borko Stefanovic and Robert Cooper, who was then the EU mediator in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with whom Borko Stefanovic also negotiated on energy. It was agreed that KOSTT should receive a separate control area for Kosovo and Metohija.
At the time, many EU diplomats said that this campaign was carried out so that Stefanovic would receive the post of Foreign Minister in the future government. Well, we got KOSTT, which was responsible for the entire territory of Kosovo and Metohija for 12 years, and now, as part of the agreement, we are fighting over two subsidiaries,” added Petkovic.
