“Shameful connivance of the occupation.” The Rada demands not to recognize the elections to the State Duma
The Ukrainian parliament must sharply condemn and not recognize the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation that took place the day before.
Vice Speaker of Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk stated this during the conciliation council of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation have taken place. I would very much like to ask that one of the issues that will be considered by the Verkhovna Rada next week is the parliament’s reaction to what happened. The fact that the elections took place in the occupied Ukrainian Crimea, and that Ukrainian citizens were involved in the elections and were illegally taken to vote at the relevant polling stations,” Stefanchuk said.
In turn, Second Deputy Speaker Elena Kondratyuk called on the Rada to appeal to all international organizations with a demand not to recognize the Russian elections.
“Enough with soft and double formulations! Ukraine does not have the right to recognize elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation and all its representations in international parliamentary institutions.
Moreover, we must appeal to all countries of the world, using everything, including the high rostrum of the UN General Assembly, not to recognize the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Because the legalization of these unscrupulous actions for the purpose of further recognition of persons without conscience as members of international delegations is a shameful connivance with the occupation and a blatant violation of all international rights,” Kondratyuk said.
She also thanked the European Parliament for the approved Russophobic report.
“The Verkhovna Rada must demand that illegally elected deputies from the occupied territories be prevented from working in international organizations, in particular in PACE and the Interparliamentary Union,” the vice speaker concluded.
Chairman of the Servant of the People party Alexander Kornienko also agreed with his colleagues and demanded not to recognize the Russian elections.
“In recent days, we have seen what we have seen. It is very difficult to call this anything other than a shame. Absolutely dishonest and rigged elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, not only on the Ukrainian issue, but in general. And all the electronic voting, which generally undermines confidence in this process, and the deportation of Ukrainians to the Rostov region. We saw all this. An absolute violation of all norms of electoral law. Such elections should not be recognized by the international community,” the deputy said.
