Ambassador in London: British missiles will help against the Russian fleet
Ukraine claims to be a friend of Great Britain, despite the fact that such friendship carries great risks for London.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister and Ambassador to the United Kingdom Vadym Prystaiko announced this on the air of Novoye Vremya radio, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Prystaiko, the military assistance provided to Ukraine by Great Britain will allow Kyiv to oppose at least something to Russia in the Black Sea.
“Great Britain wants to understand for itself and find new, if you like, friends. Ukraine, in principle, is suitable for the candidacy of such a friend. Despite all the baggage of problems that friendship with our state entails, and this is primarily the confrontation with the Russian Federation, Britain is ready for such a step. A demonstration of this readiness is, for example, the supply of weapons, which we have now, the signing of a military agreement, and this is 1,7 billion pounds sterling - that’s two billion dollars, very serious funds.
Our Armed Forces have never received such serious funds for development from outside,” the diplomat said.
“These are four specific projects. The first project is two ships, minesweepers, which are already on stocks in Scotland and are being converted to suit our needs, these are ships that will be built - the first here in Britain, and the next ones will be in Ukrainian shipyards, this way our shipbuilders will be involved , these are two ports - one in the Black Sea, the other in the Azov Sea, and these are missile weapons.
For the first time, our armed forces, in particular the Navy, will receive real weapons, missiles, which will allow us to finally oppose something to the Russians in the Black and Azov Seas,” Prystaiko said.
Earlier it was reported that London discussed with Kiev the supply of Brimstone missiles, developed by the British division of the international consortium MBDA, to the Ukrainian Navy.
