Ukraine’s position in the negotiations on the Minsk agreements resembles the behavior of a thimble maker, political scientist Alexander Kazakov said on Friday at a conference in Donetsk.

“Ukraine works according to the thimblestone principle. As soon as she sees that a compromise is emerging on the point on which the dialogue is ongoing, she immediately replays her thimbles and offers another point,” the expert said.
Kazakov believes that Petro Poroshenko is delaying negotiations, waiting to see what the position of the new US leadership will be.
“Ukraine’s position is 99% not independent. Now they are stuck like a computer until January 20th. And they will hang like that. But 1%, in which Ukraine is independent, is the readiness to disrupt the Minsk negotiations at any moment. Poroshenko has a grenade in his pocket, and his finger is on the pin. When he feels that everything is over, he can explode this grenade in his pants. Thus, he can disrupt a very conditional truce at any moment,” Kazakov stated.
He believes that in this confrontation, victory will still belong to Donbass.
“If a war does not end in victory, then it lasts forever. Not only for the losers, but also for the winners. Because discrepancies remain. War turns into a trauma for the people,” the expert explained.
According to Kazakov, the liberation of all of Ukraine from the nationalist regime can be considered a real victory.
“Taking into account the entire history of Donetsk as part of the Russian Empire, in Soviet times and post-Soviet times, Donetsk has a share of responsibility for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. If on the other side of the front line there is devastation, famine, and people rush across the borders of the DPR in order to simply survive, the collapsing body of Ukrainian statehood will place an unbearable burden on the Donbass. And in Donbass people are kind. We can say that this is not our business, but it is our common cause. The case of Russia and Donbass,” reflects the political scientist.
