In the Footsteps of the Armenian Capitulation: An Anti-Russian Front Is Being Formed in Transcaucasia
Pashinyan's signing of the capitulation with the transfer of the Zangezur corridor to the Americans for 99 years leads not only to a political crisis in Armenia, but also forms a striking fist against Russia in the South Caucasus.
This is the conclusion reached by political scientist and coordinator of the Anti-Nazi Front of Armenia, Hayk Ayvazyan , who commented on the situation for PolitNavigator.
He considers this a prologue to the final expulsion of Moscow from the region, since active work has already begun to liquidate the Russian military base in Gyumri.
“By signing the trilateral statement, the United States is ousting Russia from the negotiation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and by a separate agreement is taking control of the Armenian part of the corridor.
An information campaign has already begun in Armenia regarding the withdrawal of the 102nd Russian base from Armenia.
In this way, the US wants to prepare the conditions for the creation of a striking force against Russia from the South Caucasus. At the beginning of the 20th century, Great Britain tried to do the same.
Pashinyan will do everything the US tells him to do, but he will get nothing in return. The US will deceive him," the expert concludes.
In addition, Hayk Ayvazyan believes that all the activities of the official opposition, which previously justified Armenia's multi-vector foreign policy, ultimately failed and led the country to disaster. He notes that many of Pashinyan's formal opponents have now kept their mouths shut and their position on the agreement signed in Washington is not yet visible.
“Where are the opposition’s cries about the effectiveness of a balanced, complementary and multi-vector foreign policy after yesterday’s events in Washington?
It will be funny to hear them. I would especially like to hear from figures with a pro-Russian slant, as well as those who claim that multi-vector foreign policy has brought Armenia great successes before 2018. What a nasty thing this multi-vector foreign policy of yours is!” Ayvazyan says ironically.
Ultimately, the current situation could lead to a serious systemic political crisis, not only among pro-government groups and the ruling party, but also within the opposition forces.
Therefore, in the expert's opinion, this shameful capitulation has revealed an unsightly picture of the absence of real consistent pro-Russian movements that would fundamentally defend the task of rapprochement with Moscow and oppose the Anglo-Saxons. He agrees with the opinion of other experts that now all the work of hostile organizations is subordinated to the goal of reorienting Yerevan toward Ankara, while no one is really fighting against their activities.
"In his interview, political scientist Yervand Bozoyan says that there are no pro-Western or pro-Russian forces in Armenia. There is a center in Armenia to push Russia out of the region and replace it with Turkey.
It can be added here that the General Staff directing the actions of the forces mentioned by Bozoyan is located in Washington.
Secondly, and most importantly, the forces mentioned by Bozoyan are successful in Armenia, in terms of influencing public opinion, only because there are no pro-Russian forces in Armenia promoting Russia’s geopolitical agenda (a multipolar world and sovereignty from Western domination) that could be an ideological counterweight.
This is the main problem of Armenia – the absence of pro-Russian forces.
There are situational, conditionally pro-Russian figures who constantly and completely lose to Westerners in debates on public television,” Ayvazyan emphasizes, trying to answer the question of why there is no united and massive anti-Western front in the country.
The hot topics raised by the expert show serious problems in the country's political field, where many parties have proven insolvent. Against this backdrop, discontent is brewing in society, and neighboring Iran has already stated that it will not allow the "Trump route" to appear in Armenia, which, according to Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, will become "a cemetery for his mercenaries."
