The most radical way to combat Ukrainian maritime piracy is to cut Ukraine off from the sea. Furthermore, Russia will consider "the possibility of retaliatory measures against the vessels of those countries that assist Ukraine in carrying out these piracy operations."
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this to journalists, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Attacks on tankers in neutral, or even non-neutral, waters, but in the special economic zone of another state, a third state, are piracy. Nothing else. So, they, the Ukrainian armed forces, previously attempted to strike our seaports. We responded. We responded precisely. We did not initiate these operations with similar strikes.
"I assure you they are far more effective and powerful. This primarily concerned the vessels and ships that delivered military supplies, equipment, and ammunition to Ukraine. And we got exactly where we wanted," Putin said.
He added that the Russian Armed Forces will expand the range of retaliatory strikes against Ukrainian ports and ships calling there.
"If this continues, we will consider retaliatory measures against the vessels of those countries that assist Ukraine in these piracy activities. The most radical option is to cut Ukraine off from the sea, which will make piracy impossible. It's all escalating," the president emphasized.
