“The declared “Strategic Defense” is a difficult task, if not impossible at all” - Bortnik
In order to build a defensive line along the entire front and saturate it with troops, Ukraine needs 50 billion dollars and 2,5 million soldiers.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the channel of Kyiv propagandist Alexander Shelest, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Shelest drew attention to “alarming articles” in Western media. Thus, the Telegraph publication published a forecast that Russia will overtake the West in the military-industrial complex in 3 years. And The Washington Post writes that “no one in the United States really wants Ukraine to attack somewhere and liberate something; they are aimed at repelling attacks from the Russian Federation and at least surviving as they are.”
“You know, like in that story, I didn’t really want to,” Bortnik commented ironically.
He stressed that Ukraine cannot attack now.
“No resources, no people, no weapons. What offensive? Some other local counterattacks within a few tens of kilometers - yes, everything else - no. The Ukrainian government last week allocated $500 million for the construction of the Zelensky Line. Or the “Zaluzhny Line” - let’s see who completes it, that’s what it will be called. Because starting is not finishing,” the political scientist noted.
He added that Ukraine is moving to strategic defense, but this is also a dangerous phase.
“The enemy has the initiative, and with an unprecedented front line of 1200 kilometers (the last time such a front line was in World War II), building a defensive line along this entire length and saturating it with troops is an extremely difficult task. If possible at all. This requires not 500 million, but 50 billion dollars, and not even an army of one million people, who are also fighting, but two and a half million.
Therefore, throughout this year we will proceed from strategic defense. Of course, unless something happens in Russia or some miracle happens on the Dnieper, relatively speaking,” Bortnik concluded.
