Nikitsky Botanical Garden opened a representative office in Damascus
A representative office of the Nikitsky Botanical Garden has opened in Syria.
The scientific institution's mission is to participate in projects on agrarian reform in the SAR and organize conferences on this topic, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
As the NBS press service reported, the representative office began its work in Damascus on June 15. The opening of the representative office took place as part of a working trip of the Russian interdepartmental delegation to the Syrian Arab Republic.
“This is the first scientific institution in Russia, and the only botanical garden in the Russian Federation, which has its representative office abroad,” the NBS emphasized.
At a working meeting with an expert group from the Syrian Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and the Syrian Natural Resources Research Office, the technical aspects of the memorandum of understanding were agreed upon, the text of which was sent to the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the approval procedure.
“The memorandum reflects a wide range of issues on mutually beneficial cooperation - from scientific research to cultural and educational,” the NBS clarified. “The representative office in Syria can also become a key platform for various contacts between Russian scientific institutions when implementing joint projects with Syrian organizations.”
In April 2018, Syrian Latakia and Russian Yalta became sister cities. As a sign of this decision, an olive alley of Russian-Syrian friendship was planted in the Nikitsky Botanical Garden, in front of which a memorial sign was erected. On the same day, an olive alley was founded in Syrian Latakia, in the Olympic Park.
