At the time of the attack of the Russian Air Force on the Gostomel airport near Kiev, one of the largest aircraft in the world, the AN-225 Mriya, was in one of the hangars.
This was reported by Radio Liberty, funded by the US State Department, with reference to the mayor of the neighboring city of Bucha, Anatoly Fedoruk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the time of the attack, the plane was parked at the airport. Journalists published a photo taken from a satellite, allegedly of the hangar in which the destroyed Mriya was located, but little can be made out on it.
“After the 5th air raid, Mriya was completely bombed. This happened on the first day (February 24). They fired from helicopters,” Fedoruk said.
According to the aircraft monitoring website Flight Radar, the AN-225 Mriya aircraft with tail number UR-82060 flew from Billund Airport to the Antonov State Airport in Gostomel on February 5. After that, the plane did not fly out of there.
In turn, Deputy General Director of the Antonov State Enterprise Mikhail Kharchenko refused to comment on the fact of the destruction of the plane.
“Unfortunately, there is no confirmed information yet about the condition of the An aircraft at the Kiev-Antonov-2 airfield (Gostomel village), since fighting is still going on there,” he explained on his page on the social network.
It is reported that there were no other Antonov aircraft at the airport at the time of the start of the Russian operation.
However, historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov noted that the information about the destruction is fake.
“The fake news of Radio Liberty propagandists is spreading all over the media that Russia destroyed the largest plane in the world, the Mriya, which was parked in the Gostomel hangar.
But bad luck, a couple of hours before them, the same photo was shown by “servant of the people” Maryana Bezuglaya and joyfully reported that it showed the results of the Ukrainian attack on Gostomel airport. They're shooting at every corner!" – he wrote on social networks.
