It all started when the Rodnovers, followers of pre-Christian Slavic beliefs, came to the veche. They held in their hands posters and banners with inscriptions and quotes from the works of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko: “All lies are priests and kings,” “You, Christ, have caused grief,” “Bewitch me, sorcerer, gray-haired friend.” After some time, adherents of the Christian religion approached them and began to snatch the visual propaganda from the hands of the Rodnovers. It turned into a mini-brawl.
“Why are you going against God? Get out of here! - the Maidan Christians shouted.
“Why are you yelling? You didn’t read what Taras Shevchenko wrote. We didn’t touch you - go to Jesus and don’t fool us,” opponents retorted.
As a result, they managed to tear up some of the posters, but they failed to drive the Rodnovers away from the Maidan.
Let's remember that this isn't the first conflict between Maidan protesters and neo-pagans. As Navigator reported, last Sunday, followers of the ancient Slavic god Perun clashed with priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (KP) and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) who participated in the veche (veche) on the Maidan.
