According to experts, there are now about 120 thousand militants in the world associated with terrorist organizations. Advisor to the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Andrei Baklanov stated this at a round table in Moscow.

“Of these, 75-85 thousand are now fighting in the territories of Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq, and 30-40 thousand are potential militants all over the world, including in Europe. We do not see adequate awareness of the situation in Europe. NATO continues to cast a shadow over the fence, talking about some kind of danger from the East,” Baklanov said.
Earlier, a member of the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Adalbi Shkhagoshev, suggested that there are already more than a thousand suicide bombers in Europe.
“There are no exact data, but there are a million refugees there only officially. They couldn’t help but take advantage of this and create a radical pyramid,” Shkhargoshev said.
In his opinion, today the system of combating terrorism in Russia is much more effective than in Europe, since it is preventive in nature. “Today we control more than 3 thousand people from those who receive skills in Syria and Iraq and Afghanistan. We keep more than 220 people registered as potential suicide bombers. We are constantly updating the international data bank. A very serious achievement is the conduct of counter-terrorism operations in the North Caucasus. We destroy those who would like to commit a crime,” Shkhargoshev said.
The deputy believes that it is necessary to tighten criminal liability not only for terrorists, but also for recruiters. “Today the recruiter escapes deserved punishment. “The death row inmate receives the death penalty or life imprisonment, and the recruiter, if proven guilty, receives from 5 to 12 years. A recruiter is more dangerous than a suicide bomber, because he can train 10-15, or even 20 suicide bombers. Therefore, I have prepared a bill in which I advocate life imprisonment for the recruiter,” Shkhargoshev said.
