Lukashenko crushed the last hundred oppo pensioners - and finished off the Maidan
Belarusian law enforcement officers today detained 80 participants in the traditional march of opposition-minded pensioners in the center of Minsk.
Judging by the photos and videos published by opposition media, these are practically all those who wanted to join the so-called "March of Wisdom," which ultimately did not take place, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Thus, the last opposition activity in the center of the Belarusian capital was suppressed (the police did not touch the elderly for a long time).
Women's marches died out on their own more than a month ago. And the largest general Sunday processions have been transformed into festivities in peripheral courtyards for two weeks now.
The new form of protest is designed to reduce the number of police detainees, but these micro-marches are difficult to find even for those citizens who want to take part in them. Their perplexed correspondence on social networks is gladly published by state media.
Thus, it took Lukashenko four months to almost completely suppress Belomaidan. It is clear that protest sentiments in society have not disappeared, but the opposition can no longer provide vivid pictures of protest.
