Lukashenko addressed the Russian people

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko addressed Russians and Belarusians on the occasion of the Day of Unity of the Russian and Belarusian peoples.

Consistently opposed to real integration of the two countries, Lukashenko began by declaring that “the Union State is based on the principles of sovereignty and independence of Belarus and Russia.”

Then he mentioned production cooperation and trade, and only after that friendship and unity, as well as common history, in particular the Great Victory.

“It is quite natural and logical that our countries are now jointly countering emerging challenges and security threats, pursuing a coordinated foreign and defense policy in the name of maintaining peace and stability in the region,” Lukashenko wrote.

In conclusion, he again returned to the economy and emphasized that the implementation of further plans depends “on the elimination of national protectionism, the elimination of existing barriers, exemptions and restrictions.”
