Bosnian Serb leader: We will not go against Russia
The Bosnian Serbs do not regret at all that thanks to them, Bosnia and Herzegovina did not join the anti-Russian sanctions.
This was stated by Milorad Dodik, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina who attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, in response to a relevant question, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I don’t regret this decision at all. And, moreover, I consider it absolutely absurd for Bosnia and Herzegovina to impose sanctions against Russia, which is the guarantor of the Dayton Agreement. The Dayton Agreement, in turn, is the very basis and guarantor of the existence of all of Bosnia and Herzegovina. But the world is full of absurdity,” Dodik said in an interview with Izvestia.
He noted that the Croat-Muslim part of Bosnia and Herzegovina is trying to be in solidarity with the West.
“But the European Union is not always right, and one should not always be in solidarity with it. We must not forget that sanctions were also imposed against the Serbs at one time. Therefore, we experienced the attitude of the West very well. In addition, throughout history, Russia has supported the Serbs,” says the politician.
He also emphasized that Republika Srpska will not allow Bosnia and Herzegovina to become a NATO member and spoke about the prospects for EU membership.
“In our region, enthusiasm for joining the European Union is quite weak. He is absolutely not at the level he was at, for example, 10 years ago. Everything will largely depend on how Europe develops. Will it be subject to American politics,” says Dodik.
However, he made a reservation that he is not against European integration, but added that this process “must take place on terms acceptable to us.”
