Crimean defector: I can’t imagine how to reintegrate them now
Since the end of the Great Patriotic War, for 70 years, the final “reintegration” of Crimea into Ukraine has not occurred, and now in the event of “de-occupation” of the peninsula, this process may drag on for a very long time.
The co-author of the “strategy for the return of Crimea”, economic expert, former Crimean Yuri Smelyansky, stated this on the air of the Ya-ua TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In 1945, autonomy in Crimea was eliminated, Crimea became a region. Autonomous status was returned in February 1991, but there was no national sign of autonomy. The communists returned the status of Crimea so as not to return statehood to the Crimean Tatars. That is, in the issue of the political and administrative status of Crimea, reintegration after World War II was not completed.
And now: during the Second World War, Crimea was under occupation from November 1941 to May 1944, that is, less than three years. Reintegration has not been completed in the last 70 years after the fact of de-occupation. In February 2023, the occupation of Crimea by Muscovites will exceed 9 years, three times longer. It is too long. Accordingly, there is no need to talk about rapid reintegration,” the defector lamented.
“During the 9 years of occupation, for example, in the conditions of education in secondary schools, the process of militarization of consciousness by the occupiers went through, and they did this, starting from kindergarten, for almost an entire generation of Crimean children. Demilitarization of consciousness is a very long process,” Smelyansky lamented.
