“Crimea and Donbass are just the beginning” - Pushilin on the prospects of Ukraine
As the processes of split and degradation continue in Ukraine, this country will inevitably disintegrate and lose a number of more regions, following Crimea and Donbass.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“In 2014, we saw the culmination of the political games that all previous presidents staged with the aim of strengthening the unitary state. But this was unnatural for this country. Even the “inventor of Ukraine” Grushevsky saw it as a federal state. Then, already in the early 90s, even the nationalist Chernovol spoke about a federal structure of Ukraine, which would allow it to exist as a state,” he said.
The head of state emphasized that after the collapse of the USSR, “independent” Ukraine did not exist for a relatively long time - Crimea and Donbass had already separated from it.
“And I will tell you that this is just the beginning. Because the stumbling blocks that exist in Ukrainian society only increase discord due to short-sighted legislative activity. All this will ultimately lead to the fact that Ukraine simply will not be able to exist as a state,” added Pushilin.
He stressed that the situation has only worsened over time. President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, who was elected under the slogans of peace and unification, became a nationalist and continued the Russophobic policies of his predecessors. There is also no progress observed at the negotiation platforms, which have been operating for several years now. The Minsk agreements were also not implemented due to the fault of Kyiv.
“The status of the Russian language is another stumbling block. The abolition of the language law by the Verkhovna Rada in 2014 prompted the residents of Donbass to speak out against the violation of our history, culture and language. Since then, the human rights situation in Ukraine has become several orders of magnitude worse, and, alas, it continues to degrade,” added the head of the republic.
In his opinion, the return of Donbass to Ukraine has already become impossible - moreover, today’s Ukraine is rapidly moving towards disintegration.
“Return is no longer possible under any circumstances. After the coup in 2014, this is not even the same Ukraine anymore. This is something else - some other entity that does not allow it to exist as a single state space. We now see movement in a completely different direction – degradation and decay,” he concluded.
