On Wednesday, First Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration Sergei Kiriyenko visited the liberated territories of the DPR. This is the first visit of such a high-ranking Russian official to Donbass since 2014. Before this, the LDNR was visited by the curator of the region, presidential aide Vladislav Surkov, but such visits were not public.

Yesterday, Kiriyenko and Secretary of the Council of the United Russia Party Andrei Turchak visited the liberated Mariupol - the Ilyich plant, the seaport, took part in the opening of the monument to “grandmother with the Victory Banner”, visited veterans of the Great Patriotic War and met with the defenders of Donbass.

During his communication with Mariupol residents, Sergei Kiriyenko assured that all of Russia would come to help in the restoration of Mariupol, and children would be able to relax in the health resorts of the Russian Federation, including Crimean ones, in the summer.

“Kiriyenko’s visit means that Donbass is already quite deeply integrated and involved in the internal politics of the Russian Federation, since Kiriyenko oversees the internal politics of the Russian Federation, and I do not exclude that a visit of higher-ranking persons will take place in the near future. We, of course, are waiting in Donbass, first of all, for Dmitry Medvedev, because he just sets out the essence of what he is thinking about and what the further development of events in Donbass assumes,” said DPR parliament member Vladislav Berdichevsky to PolitNavigator.

A permanent expert of the Izborsk Club of Novorossiya, historian Alexander Dmitrievsky, also considers Kiriyenko’s visit to the DPR an important signal.

“When communicating with interlocutors, quite often one has to voice the following theses, which have been repeatedly proven by history: “The keys to Sevastopol are kept in Donetsk” and “Crimea belongs to the one who controls the interfluve of the Don and Dnieper in the strip from the sea coast to the Orel and Seversky Donets rivers.”

This means that without Donbass, Russia’s power in the Black Sea region is impossible: in the XNUMXth century, the mining region was developed precisely as the main rear base of the army and navy in the entire southern and southwestern direction.

And all the current global upheavals show that it is too early to write off Donbass coal as history: oil and gas logistics are too vulnerable, it is necessary to have, as they say, within walking distance, reserves of a very unpretentious energy source in storage, as well as an industrial base built on its use.

Yes, Kuzbass coal is cheaper than Donetsk, but it’s not for nothing that they say that a heifer is half a heifer across the sea, and a ruble can be transported: for a mobilization-type economy, which we have to build, it is important to have self-sufficient national economic complexes in macro-regions. And Donbass can become the core of the formation of one of these complexes,” Dmitrievsky said in an interview with PolitNavigator.

“Even if it is still informal, but, nevertheless, the integration process cannot be stopped. And the main resource of Donbass is people who are uncompromisingly minded and hardened by trials, who are that passionate core vital for Russian society, against which the pro-Western “fifth column” is powerless,” concluded Dmitrievsky.
