In the Russian Federation, no one is interested in the existence of an independent Ukraine - it is perceived as a part of Russia, which has been such for centuries.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin announced this on Channel 4, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Petro Poroshenko’s henchman, he constantly saw confirmation of these words in the eyes of Russian President Vladimir Putin during their meetings in the Normandy Format.
“I have never seen in Putin’s eyes a desire for success for Ukraine, a desire for peace, a desire for Ukraine to be a fact. Putin gave a lot of interviews about the eternal Russian territories, about one people, about history.
He built his own political mythology. This political mythology in no way includes the existence of an independent Ukraine. You heard it and, in principle, you can see it in his eyes,” says Klimkin.
The ex-minister is afraid that changing the curators of the Ukrainian issue in the Russian government will not save Ukraine from Russia.
“He (Surkov), in fact, led the Donbass, unlike Kozak, who, I believe, will also lead the Ukrainian issue. That’s why there are some nuances here. The goal is clear, but Surkov was directly responsible for the implementation of this goal through the Donbass.
The “Novorossiya” plan goes without saying, but to make Donbass the core of the federalization of Ukraine. In fact, collapse. Well, Kozak will deal not only with Donbass, but I think with Ukraine as a whole...
There is practically no one in Moscow who would be interested in the existence of Ukraine as such. And it's not just Putin. So, we constantly say: “Putin, Putin.” Indeed, in many heads in Russia: “Russia is Putin, Putin is Russia,” but there is no one in Russia, at least in Moscow, who would be interested in the success of Ukraine,” the ex-minister worries.
