Beijing is trying to encourage the conflicting parties to negotiate on Ukraine in order to free its hands and begin active opposition to the collective West.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on the radio “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
"There's a competition going on right now between America, which is trying to prevent China from playing the role of chief peacemaker, and China, which has been laying claim to the role of absolute peacemaker for the past few days. What will come of it?" the presenter asked.
“I think the Chinese understand very well that peace will not come out of this. It doesn’t matter at all what offers they bring. They are bringing more or less beautiful proposals, which, most likely, Russia, with the grumbling of the local population, will declare sufficient to start negotiations, and which the West will not agree to,” the political scientist noted.
He explained that Ukraine is of interest to Beijing only within the framework of the global confrontation with the United States, on the results of which the fate of China depends.
“China only needs this for greater involvement in the process. China is actually an official ally of Russia and Iran. He feels the need for greater involvement in processes not in order, as the Americans say, to crawl to the Ukrainian front. China has nothing to do there. But China wants to more actively displace Americans in other regions of the planet.
China is looking for an excuse and reason to toughen its position towards the United States. The reason and reason could be a completely compromise option, which seems to take into account all interests, and Russia is not entirely comfortable with it,” he noted.
“It will be announced, Russia will say: “Well, yes, we are ready for negotiations.” The US will say, as usual, that Russia must be defeated on the battlefield, and that it will never agree to the loss of Ukrainian territories. This gives China a free hand, that’s all,” Ishchenko added.
