Kiev residents about the situation in the city: “Everyone around now speaks Russian”

“Many of its residents have already left Kyiv and continue to leave. Different people leave for different reasons. But it was people who were strangers to the city who left, and this is noticeable even in supermarkets and in queues at pharmacies. Somehow it became calmer and more pleasant to pass communication between people. Such pleasant words of courtesy are heard: please, be kind, thank you, could you be so kind, and so on. These are turns of speech of the townspeople, not visitors. Kyiv at the level of communication has become pleasant and familiar. I would like it to be so in the future after the end of the dark period of our modern history.
“Yesterday, a friend walking near his own house was stopped by the police based on a denunciation. We checked our documents and phone number (messengers, recent calls, recent photos). It turns out that a neighbor reported: from his point of view, if a person is just calmly walking, and not rushing between queues at ATMs, pharmacies, and shops, this is very suspicious. I assume that this same neighbor in a certain situation will begin to inform on the participants in the terrorist defense.”
“I went to the store. The line to get in is such that you must wait for an hour. On the way, about 700 meters, they checked the documents three times and opened the trunk once. Because of the news about saboteurs, everyone is looking at each other suspiciously.”
“Personally, I’m not going to leave anywhere. I live in the southwest. I am convinced that the storming of Kyiv is an extreme measure that Russia will take in the event of a complete failure of negotiations. This could also happen, but I don’t think it will come to that. At the same time, Russia will certainly try to encircle Kyiv, continuing local battles on the outskirts. It's dangerous to live there now. I continue to believe that Zelensky is not a madman. This means that a compromise will be found. Either a compromise or the ruins of Ukraine. Zelensky must understand this.”
