The snow cyclone that swept over Khabarovsk the day before reduced the number of participants in the traditional protest against the detention of the former governor of the region Sergei Furgal to a couple of hundred people.

During the day, the snow turned to rain, and people came to the procession under umbrellas. The police warned those gathered about responsibility for participating in unauthorized mass events. In response, several men began to pester the police, shoving video cameras in their faces.

The two largest slogans were dedicated to the demand to allow doctors into Sergei Furgal’s cell (protesters are confident that the former governor’s health has worsened). A funny slogan also stood out: “Khabarovsk does not bully, but furgalit.”

This time there were no posters with insults against the Russian President, Belarusian flags or other paraphernalia imposed on the protests by Navalny’s local headquarters. But there were several posters criticizing the new head of the region, Mikhail Degtyarev.

Most unanimously, people chanted “I, we are Sergei Furgal” and “We are the power here.”

As the march progressed, groups of young people shouted anti-Putin slogans, but the majority did not support them.

“In bad weather, the pictures from the action are not so killer, but they are more convincing. Authorities at all levels are no longer honored here. Khabarovsk will not dissolve, although it will remain alone in the medium term. However, this loneliness makes the Khabarovsk protest even more noticeable. Other regions will catch up as alternative elections are held in them, when technocratic governors run for a second term,” Udmurt journalist Sergei Shchukin wrote in his Telegram channel.
