Karaganov: “We mistakenly considered the conflict in Ukraine as a northwestern military district”
Political scientist Sergei Karaganov, who recently held a strategic session with the President of the Russian Federation at the PMF, believes that Russia underestimated the meaning of the conflict it entered into in Ukraine.
He stated this in an interview with the Grani project, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"I think we misunderstood from the very beginning that we weren't entering into a fight over Ukraine or in Ukraine, but rather that we were entering into a mortal battle with the West . Right from the start. And we thought that Kiev—and that was generally considered the Central Military District—was the strategic operation. And this is a strategic operation. I don't want to call it a world war, but at its core, it is a world war , although I hope it won't come to that. We simply underestimated the depth of the contradictions and the crisis in the West. That's why we didn't act decisively enough. And we didn't put into action from the very beginning what should have been put into action from the very beginning," Karaganov said.
He believes that the main thing that Russia must achieve during the Northeast Military District is to break the will of the West.
