The most prominent participants in the protests that swept the south-eastern regions of Ukraine after the 2014 coup d'etat are either thrown behind bars or are under the watchful eye of the SBU.

Roman Sinitsyn, a volunteer of the so-called “ATO”, stated this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe”, answering the question of whether the situation in traditionally Russian-speaking regions could worsen if Ukraine adopts an even stricter law in relation to the Russian language.
“I think this is impossible now. The vast majority of the main engines that worked to stir up the situation in 2013-2014 have already been localized. People are either sitting or the SBU is working closely with them. I don’t think that in today’s realities they will shake up the situation, that there will be mass rallies of the “dissatisfied Russian-speaking population,” the publication’s interlocutor believes.
At the same time, he answered the question in the affirmative that “there are still separatist sentiments in the regions.”
"Certainly. There are adherents of the ideas of joining Russia or federalization. We travel quite often to the Donetsk region, in particular to Mariupol, and there are cities where one gets the impression that about 50% of the population are “women”. Nevertheless, their main leaders were localized and repeatedly beaten by some right-wing radical forces,” Sinitsyn said. – For example, you can see how the last lectures of Viktor Medvedchuk’s supporters took place in Kherson and Nikolaev two months ago. They barricaded themselves in the room, they were stormed, and the police were there. That is, the people are not at all inert, and I don’t think that obvious manifestations of separatism will be allowed now.”
