About 2 thousand people gathered for the event, but only strong men could carry the banners: the north wind tore them out of their hands.
The publication reports that local trade unions distributed 25 slogans recommended for demonstrations in advance. However, the communists violated the ban and came out with slogans against the Sakhalin authorities.
The police tried to convince the communists to roll up the posters, but in vain, because formally the citizens had not broken the law.
In Irkutsk, the May Day meeting of trade unions was also canceled due to bad weather. But despite the heavy rain, about a hundred Irkutsk residents gathered in the square, many with flags of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. The police asked them to stop because the event was not approved.
