India and China have not switched to anti-Russian positions, as they are now saying in the West, commenting on the results of the SCO summit, the final declaration of which calls on countries to renounce the use of force.
This was stated by Alexander Lukin, scientific director of the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Western commentators following the summit are highlighting Xi and Modi’s concerns about a special military operation. These concerns concern economics and politics. After all, sanctions undermine international trade, and China is the world's largest trading power.
In addition, events in Ukraine undermine the calm flow of world politics. Perhaps Russia could have acted more softly. But in principle, China believes that the United States is to blame for these events. They are pursuing a provocative policy towards both Russia and China, reducing their spheres of influence and trying to slow down their development,” the expert told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
According to him, India also criticizes the West, although more softly than in China.
“Indians are also unhappy that the West is putting pressure on them. It is not for nothing that Indian Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar said: you do not pay attention to India when it has problems. But as soon as something happens in the West, you immediately turn to India for help.
Statements from both the Indian and Chinese leaders indicate that they would like Russia to somehow complete the operation. But they are not at all against Russia,” Lukin believes.
