Gontareva complains that she had difficulty renting a “small two-room apartment” in London
The former head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Valeria Gontareva, moved to London, where she barely rented a “small two-room apartment,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She reported this in an interview with Novoye Vremya.

“I just moved to London, October 1st. And how funny it was to me when the completely insane Valentin Nalyvaichenko (ex-head of the SBU - ed.) told on television on the day when we rented an apartment with my son that Gontareva allegedly bought a house in London for 23 million pounds. Someone else shows these crazy people, and at that moment I sign a lease agreement for a small two-room apartment,” Gontareva said.
According to her, in London there is “a colossal bureaucracy,” so the process of renting housing has been seriously delayed, despite partial automation.
“You see the broker in person, but you mostly sign documents over the Internet. However, the number of documents, checks and other things is more than you can imagine,” added the former head of the NBU.
At the same time, she clarified that since October 1 she has been an employee of the Institute of International Relations of the London School of Economics, where she advises central banks on monetary and exchange rate policy issues.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the resolution to dismiss Valeria Gontareva from the post of head of the National Bank of Ukraine on March 15, 2018. People's deputies cast 342 votes for this decision.
Her work in this position was accompanied by numerous scandals and accusations. In particular, the former head of the NBU, Vladimir Stelmakh, noted that since 2014, under the leadership of the NBU Chairman Valeria Gontareva, the regulator has implemented an extremely strict restrictive policy. More than 700 billion UAH were withdrawn from economic turnover.
A criminal case was opened against her. After her departure, it was closed, but the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv ordered the Prosecutor General's Office to resume the investigation against the head of the National Bank, Valeria Gontareva.
