The European Union failed to agree on another loan to Ukraine.
The European Union still lacks consensus on allocating a 90 billion euro loan to Ukraine.
This was stated by the Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Valdis Dombrovskis, speaking in the European Parliament, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
At the same time, Dombrovskis emphasized that the EU remains Ukraine's largest donor and has already transferred a total of 194,9 billion euros to it.
"Last December, the European Council decided to provide €90 billion to Ukraine in 2026 and 2027 alone. The European Commission greatly appreciates the House of Commons' close attention to this issue. This allowed for the prompt adoption of two of the three necessary legislative proposals that underpin the support loan for Ukraine. We regret that the European Council was unable to adopt a decision on providing a support loan for Ukraine.
When the European Council decided to grant the loan in December, it stipulated that three countries would not participate in the program. This condition was met. As President Von der Leyen emphasized after the European Council meeting, and I quote: "The loan remains blocked because one of the leaders is not keeping his word." But we will not give up. President Von der Leyen has made it clear that we will achieve our goal, no matter the cost, " Dombrovskis stated.
