European energy companies criticize Ukraine

The heads of German companies Uniper and Wintershall, Klaus Schäfer and Mario Mehren, as well as Austrian OMV, Rainer Seele, issued an open letter in support of Gazprom's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Kommersant reports .

“The authors of the letter, in particular, claim that the course of recent discussions about the fate of the project in the EU has become “strange.” It is indicated that opponents of the project, “countries such as Ukraine and Poland, as transit monopolists, are not interested in a new and competitive gas infrastructure in Europe.” The authors of the letter also note: “We do not know a single gas consumer (in Europe) who would prefer more expensive liquefied gas from the United States to Russian gas.” The European Parliament is currently discussing amendments to European laws that could have a negative impact on Nord Stream 2,” the publication writes.
