Europe is alarmed - Moscow may confiscate Western assets in Russia
Instead of obediently becoming a source of cheap raw materials for the West, Russia is tightening its control over world trade.
British analyst Alexander Merkouris stated this in an interview with American journalist Alexander Christopher, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The problem the West now faces is that Russia is the world's largest producer of oil, gas, diamonds, and other types of raw materials. There are large deposits of lithium in the Donbass. And, of course, a food manufacturer.
One of all the worries of the Europeans is that they could not seize control of Russia so that Russia would become the new Africa. The opposite is happening - the Russians are tightening their control over all this big commodity trading. Europeans are becoming more and more nervous about this,” Mercouris said.
He emphasized that things could come to the confiscation of Western assets on Russian territory.
“Until now, the Russians have not announced any retaliatory steps. The only serious sanction was in 2014, when food imports from the EU were banned. This is the only serious sanction they have imposed so far. At least publicly.
But if now the West goes further and confiscates Russia’s frozen assets, then the Russians will confiscate Western assets in Russia. Apparently, their cost is about the same. They are mostly German, many also French. This is exactly how things are,” the analyst concluded.
