“If I hadn’t drunk, there wouldn’t have been a war” - fugitive ex-editor of the main business newspaper of the Russian Federation
Former general director and chief editor of the Kommersant publishing house, Andrei Vasiliev, claims that he could have prevented the war in Ukraine.
He stated this in an interview with the Latvian YouTube channel “And Graham Strikes,” reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“I actually had a brilliant story when Ilya Khrzhanovsky, a famous director, called me on the evening of the 23rd. He was in Kyiv. He says: we are going to write the most important appeal for Zelensky here and we want to attract you. I say: it’s cool, I have Ukrainians, but I need to talk to Zelensky, I can’t just write from scratch. He says: come on, cool, you’ll come tomorrow. They are sending a plane for me, no, I was joking. I think I’ll go tomorrow, but I had some thoughts.
It would be a collective effort, but that's my topic. I drank a little and thought, let me write some kind of “fish” and send it to the guys. While I'm flying, something will come from me. I sat down and wrote a speech. The only thing I understood was that I was drunk, but I was still an editor. I think I’ll wake up in the morning, take a look, and correct it a little. And in the morning my son wakes me up: that’s it, dad, the war has begun. If this cart had arrived, there would have been no war, for sure,” Vasiliev said.
Previously, Vasiliev was involved in several scandals when he gave interviews while intoxicated.
