“This is ugliness and apartheid” - the Russian Foreign Ministry praised Zelensky’s passport initiative
The initiative introduced by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to persecute Ukrainians for Russian citizenship is an example of the worst practices of segregation and apartheid.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
On December 2, the President of Ukraine submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada amending the citizenship law . This document proposes legalizing dual citizenship for Ukrainians living in the West, namely in the EU, Canada, and the United States. And for Ukrainians who have accepted Russian citizenship, sanctions will be introduced, including fines and even restrictions on freedom.
In the history of the XNUMXth century there is and was such a thing as apartheid. It would seem that the European continent and those states that have so beautifully and very clearly articulated their commitment to advanced values and respect for human rights, freedom of speech, and democratic principles will definitely not be affected by this disease, this phenomenon. But this law is the worst practices of segregation, apartheid, the list goes on. This is the same ugliness that humanity, apparently, was forced to endure,” Zakharova said.
“Where are all the human rights activists? This should not just be some kind of informational criticism. This should be a serious debriefing at the international level. How did the international community allow such a phenomenon not in an uncontrolled corner of the world, where thugs and extremists operate, but in a state that declares its priorities, associating with the Western community, is present at the UN and other international platforms, and participates in leaders’ summits in various formats?” – the Foreign Ministry representative concluded rhetorically.
