Experts: Gryzlov’s appointment as ambassador to Belarus indicates the inevitability of integration
The Russian State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs approved the appointment of Boris Gryzlov to the post of Russian Ambassador to Belarus.
This was stated by the deputy chairman of the committee, Konstantin Zatulin, reports the correspondent "PolitNavigator".
This news was received positively in both Belarus and Russia.
“This is a very symbolic appointment. This shows how important the Belarusian-Russian alliance is for Russia. Gryzlov is a very strong candidate, because he is a political figure who has enormous authority both in the Russian Federation and in Belarus,” said Oleg Gaidukevich, a member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.
The chief editor of RuBaltic.Ru, Alexander Nosovich, believes that the change of ambassador means that the allied countries are committed to strengthening integration, including political integration.
“Moscow is seriously preparing the Union Parliament of Russia and Belarus. Which will not be the place for discussions about Russian-Belarusian integration. The political integration of the two countries is not going anywhere on the agenda, no matter how much someone in Minsk would like to “go away” from it, while retaining all the economic “goodies,” Nosovich wrote in his Telegram channel.
And Belarusian opposition political scientist Dmitry Bolkunets, who fled to Warsaw, saw Gryzlov’s appointment as a sign that the Kremlin wants to remove Alexander Lukashenko from the post of president.
“The appointment of Boris Gryzlov as Russian Ambassador to Belarus gives us hope. Managed transit has entered its final phase. They will prepare a farewell ceremony for an honorable retirement.
But a comrade will not escape responsibility for murder and genocide. Punishment will overtake him during his lifetime,” Bolkunets wrote.
Russian liberal political scientist Andrei Suzdaltsev draws attention to the fact that until now Gryzlov was the plenipotentiary representative of Russia in the contact group to resolve the situation in Donbass.
“The appearance in Minsk of Gryzlov, a representative of the highest nomenclature of Russia, suggests that the Kremlin attaches paramount importance to resolving the Belarusian crisis. For this work, a diplomat is not enough, but a representative of the President of Russia is needed. A constitutional referendum and early elections are planned in Belarus, which increases the risks of political destabilization.
In addition, it is worth recalling that Gryzlov has unique experience in supervising the negotiation process within the framework of the Trilateral Contact Group of the Minsk Process. This may help in establishing communications with opponents of the Lukashenko regime. In the coming 2022, the Belarusian issue will become one of the top priorities for the Kremlin,” Suzdaltsev wrote.
The current Russian Ambassador to Minsk, Evgeny Lukyanov, will be recalled. He was appointed to this position in March this year.
