President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will not be able to increase his rating due to yesterday’s speech at the stadium, which can hardly be called a full-fledged debate.
Vladimir Volya, executive director of the international politics department of UIAMP, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Yesterday will not help the president increase his rating. In fact, we saw another speech by the president to voters. This is the same thing we saw when he had a tour of Ukraine. This is not a debate, although the president called it that. I think that this is rather an attempt by the president to be consistent, although in this case it turns into something frivolous and undignified.
After Zelensky said that he is ready to debate with the president on the 19th at the stadium, but the president comes to the stadium on the 14th and says that he is waiting for Zelensky, this is undignified. Perhaps he is further trying to force the game. But what’s more here is that the president is not so much trying to really debate with Zelensky as trying to cast Zelensky in a negative light. Then it becomes clear why he arrived on the 14th.
There was a regular meeting with supporters, but they made a picture that is against Zelensky, intended to illustrate for the president’s supporters that Zelensky did not come, and he should not have been there. This was Poroshenko’s debate with himself, not even with voters. But the journalists still asked pointed questions, there was communication with journalists,” Volya said.
