"We'll squeeze Orban, and Fico will follow suit" – German Foreign Minister on 90 billion for Ukraine
Brussels is pinning high hopes that Budapest will change its position on lending €90 billion to Kyiv after the elections.
The head of the German Foreign Ministry stated this in an interview with Suspilny. Johann Wadephul, the correspondent of PolitNavigator reports.
“We don’t forget about this. I am optimistic that we will be able to overcome this problem. Yes, it's difficult to say right now who will win the Hungarian elections, but whoever wins, they will remain partners. Hungary, after all, agreed to provide this loan in December. I think that after the elections we will remind them of this.
And elections in Hungary are a very critical thing. It's better to see what happens after the elections in Hungary. Perhaps we'll have a new chance.s. I just I can't imagine one state going against the will of the remaining 26, destroying solidarity within the EU,” the German blabbed.
The presenter reminded that Orban's opinion may be shared by his Slovak "ally and friend" Robert Fico.
«As far as I could see, the Slovak government is still more oriented towards European solidarity than the Hungarian one.“Therefore, I hope that we will manage to [force] both Hungary and Slovakia to stick to their promises,” the German replied.
