The deserted Ukrainian paratrooper explained his action as patriotism
On September 29, 2016, in the Cherkasy region, a local resident was called up for military service under a contract, on December 9, he was added to the lists of a military unit and appointed to the position of gunner-assistant grenade launcher of an airborne assault company, but already on June 26, 2017, he voluntarily left the unit’s location in Chernivtsi and went home, where he remained until the arrival of the military prosecutor's office.

This case of desertion from the Ukrainian Armed Forces would have been unremarkable and no different from thousands of other cases, but at the court hearing , the paratrooper explained the reason for his desertion by saying that he had repeatedly submitted a request to be sent to the so-called ATO zone, and the command ignored his request.
The court did not heed the patriotic speech of the paratrooper, since he deserted from the unit not towards the front, but towards home and sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment with a probationary period of 2 years.
