“I declare my resignation from the Party of Regions faction of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. During the elections, I clearly promised voters a European course for the country’s development! In December, this course was radically turned in the other direction! Today the country is on the verge of civil war! I do not share and do not want to be involved in the organizers of the bloody events in Ukraine. In their native Khmelnytskyi region, they began shooting civilians with machine guns at a rally under the SBU building. Explanations are not accepted! This is not my policy! ...The only way out is to change the Constitution and move towards the European Union!” – Bondar wrote on his page on the social network.
This is not the first time Viktor Bondar has changed his political camp. Under Viktor Yushchenko, he worked as governor in Dnepropetrovsk and was a member of Our Ukraine; later he was one of the leaders of Viktor Baloga’s United Center party.
