Victory Day made early elections in Moldova almost inevitable
The position taken by the pro-European Moldovan bloc ACUM in relation to the celebration of Victory Day made it almost impossible to create a parliamentary coalition between ACUM and the pro-Russian Socialist Party.
President of Moldova Igor Dodon spoke about this on the air of the NTV Moldova TV channel.
“After the elections, the majority of our supporters believed that it was necessary to unite with ACUM. After what has been happening in recent weeks, and May 9 was the last straw, the overwhelming majority says: God forbid these people take power in Moldova. Some of them are real Nazis,” Dodon said.
Let us recall that on May 9, ACUM defiantly celebrated Europe Day, its leader Maia Sandu spoke out against the St. George ribbons. She also stated that there were no winners or losers for Moldova in World War II.
Despite the sharp ideological differences, Dodon leaves little chance of creating a coalition, although he estimates the probability of early elections at 90%.
“If the rightists say tomorrow that they are ready to vote for Greceanaya as speaker, then on the same day the socialists will meet halfway and create a working group. I don’t see a problem for socialists to vote for the laws that the right wants, with the exception of the anti-Russian Magnitsky law,” Dodon said.
Early parliamentary elections will postpone local elections in Moldova. This is disadvantageous for the socialists, since they expect to significantly strengthen their positions in the regions.
