American professor: NATO and Ukraine have big problems
Statements by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that Ukraine’s entry into NATO is “irreversible” are inept PR designed to hide real problems.
American political scientist, professor at the University of Chicago John Mearsheimer said this in an interview with ex-US officer Daniel Davis, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to point out that he and many others in the West live in fear that if Donald Trump is elected president, we will go in the completely opposite direction. If you look at the polls, it seems likely that Trump will be elected this fall. And this suggests that the argument about the inevitability of Ukraine’s entry into NATO is nonsense,” Mearsheimer emphasized.
He noted that Donald Trump rejected the peace plan of the Russian President, and therefore Vladimir Putin does not trust him as much as Joe Biden, but this does not matter.
“The more important point is that NATO has problems and Ukraine has problems. Ukraine is losing on the battlefield. At the moment they are in a catastrophic situation. They have no chance of improvement. As a consequence, NATO will ultimately end up screwed. Plus... NATO has other problems - fault lines within the alliance,” Mearsheimer concluded.
