“Don’t even twitch”: Kyiv is warned against trying to repeat the Karabakh scenario
Despite certain similarities with the conflict in Donbass, the situation in Karabakh has a number of fundamental differences, neglect of which in the event of an attempted offensive could cost Ukraine statehood.
Russian writer and publicist Nikolai Starikov said this on the air of First Republican, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The situation is very similar, but there are many differences. Firstly, in size and scale. That is, neither Karabakh nor Transnistria, in terms of the number of its inhabitants, even remotely resembles Ukraine or Donbass.
Secondly, in order to bring in peacekeepers, both sides must agree with this - both Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to bring in peacekeepers. The Ukrainian side does not and will not agree to the deployment of peacekeepers in the generally accepted sense, because then the war will stop, and the whole meaning of the 2014 coup will be partially nullified.
As for the conclusions that Kyiv made for itself from the war in Karabakh, of course, this is some kind of encouragement, this is a desire to repeat this scenario. But again, there is a big difference. Nagorno-Karabakh was left virtually alone with the Azerbaijani army. The Armenian army did not take any part in the hostilities, as is known, and certainly not the Russian army.
The situation in Donbass is completely different. President Putin has repeatedly stated that attempts to resolve the issue by force will lead to the loss of Ukrainian statehood. As far as I remember, he did not renege on his words,” Starikov said.
“So the desire to repeat the Karabakh scenario, it seems to me, is obvious not only to you and me, but also to military specialists who should monitor these issues. If a danger is obvious, then this danger must be prevented.
On the one hand, diplomatic statements that, guys, don’t even twitch, and here there are some mobilization measures in a whole series. As for the military aspects, I am not an expert here, but I am sure that the experience of the Karabakh war is now being carefully studied,” the publicist added.
As for the desire of the Ukrainian side to purchase the latest Turkish Bayraktar drones, Starikov recalled that it was evident before the war in Karabakh, therefore there is nothing new here on Kyiv’s part.
