Chubarov demands that the Verkhovna Rada urgently approve virtual “autonomy” in Crimea

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is expected to consider the creation of a national Crimean Tatar autonomy in Crimea during its current session. Refat Chubarov, leader of the Mejlis (the parliament banned in Russia), announced this today in Kyiv to a half-empty audience at the international forum "Occupied Peninsula: Four Years of Resistance."

“We are obliged to consider this document at the current session and send it to the Constitutional Court. This will shorten the path to return Crimea. The Ukrainian state will receive additional arguments to consider this issue at all international platforms,” Chubarov said.

He also demands that the Ukrainian authorities include Crimea in possible decisions on the deployment of UN peacekeepers to Donbas, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“We will insist that the Ukrainian state make all decisions on the return of state sovereignty over certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions while simultaneously agreeing with our partners on the procedure and timing for the return of Crimea,” Chubarov said.
