To get Yan Taksyur out of prison, you need to collect more than a million hryvnia
Ukrainian-language poet and TV presenter Yan Taksyur, who was arrested by the SBU in the spring for supporting the unity of the Russian Church on charges of “treason,” was denied transfer to house arrest, despite his cancer.
His daughter Maria stated this in her blog, commenting on the court hearing that took place the day before, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Maria recorded a video from under the court building immediately after the hearing, in which she said that a deliberately unaffordable bail amount had been set.
“I’m standing outside the Shevchenko court, the hearing in the case of my father Yan Taksyur has just ended, at which we expected the court to grant the petition to change the measure of restraint from detention to house arrest. This did not happen.
Although the oncological diagnosis has been confirmed, we have all the documents, all the results of tests and studies are fresh. However, the court set the father’s bail amount in the amount of 1 million 240 thousand hryvnia.
The amount is large, but, as our lawyer says, this outcome is not the worst. Dad's stay in custody was extended until October 6. Let’s really hope that before then we will be able to collect this amount,” the girl said.
Maria announced a fundraiser to help raise the required amount. Card number 5375414135606456.
Yan Taksyur has been behind bars since March 10 this year.
