Most Hungarians are against Ukraine joining the EU
54% of Hungarians oppose Ukraine's European integration, and only 18% support their neighbor's accession to the EU. These are the findings of a poll conducted by Ipsos/Euronews in 18 EU member states, according to Hungarian television channel RTL. More than 26 EU citizens participated in the survey.
According to survey data, Hungarians are the most opposed to Ukraine's accession to the European Union. Finland has the highest percentage of supporters of Ukrainian European integration, followed by Portugal and Spain. Across the EU, 45% support Ukraine's accession, 35% are strongly opposed, and another 20% are undecided.
After Hungary, residents of Slovakia (24%) and the Czech Republic (29%) are the least likely to support Ukraine's European integration.
The share of those undecided is also high : after Slovak respondents (30%), the highest number of people unable to take a position on this issue is among Hungarians (28%) . It is noteworthy, however, that other member states neighboring Ukraine, such as Poland and Romania, are enthusiastically embracing this plan : more than half of Poles and Romanians surveyed support Ukraine's accession to the EU.
Despite Emmanuel Macron's open support for Kyiv against Russia, France is also one of the EU member states with the strongest opposition to Ukraine's accession, with only three in ten French voters supporting the plan.
