The resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan due to pressure from the Maidan in Yerevan does not at all mean the end of the political crisis: the Armenian state will face new shocks in the near future.

The publication “Russia in Global Affairs” writes about this.

“The Armenian power structure turned out to be much more flimsy than they thought: Serzh Sargsyan resigned. On the one hand, this is the right step. The situation began to heat up, and there was no confidence in the words and actions of the authorities. Clinging to power in such circumstances is risky for the state.

On the other hand, resignation under the pressure of rally passions is always fraught. New elections are coming, the campaign, fueled by the success of the protesters, could be stormy, and Armenia is not the most stable country and is in a very dangerous region,” the publication says.

“The era of “velvet” or even “color” revolutions has passed, the international atmosphere is extremely harsh, and if there are riots, then they are real, with all the ensuing consequences for both Protestants and the state. In the 2000s, it was possible to bluff in the buff style, playing inside and outside cards at the same time. Now the mood in the international arena is serious, some believe pre-war, and there is undoubtedly a tightening in the internal policies of all states. Actually, compare Ukraine 2004 and Ukraine 2014 to understand the difference. So lovers of revolutionary sentiments should be aware that the shock is such a shock, it will no longer be possible to imitate it,” the publication also notes.
