60 percent of savvy Britons want to retain EU citizenship after Brexit and are willing to pay for it – survey
Six out of ten Britons would like to retain their European citizenship after Brexit and are even willing to pay for it.

The Guardian reports this with reference to a study by the London School of Economics.
It is reported that 60% of respondents would like to retain the right to live, work, study and travel in the European Union after the UK leaves it, with many willing to pay more than 400 pounds (almost 455 euros) to retain privileges.
“It is paradoxical that they are willing to pay more than they currently do (compared to the current contributions of citizens of the kingdom to the European budget) to maintain these rights,” LSE political science professor Michael Bruter commented on the survey results.
He added that young people are “very unhappy” at the prospect of losing these fundamental and key rights.
According to the survey, 85% of respondents are ready to retain European citizenship; these are Britons aged 18-24 years. Also, 80% of Londoners are in favor of preserving European rights for British citizens after the country leaves the EU.
The results of the study also show that only 10% of respondents support the British government’s proposal to deprive EU citizens of the right to vote in the kingdom, 73% are in favor of preserving this right, and 48% of respondents propose expanding the right to vote from local elections to general ones.
Ultimately, it all comes down to the desire of British citizens to retain the many benefits that come with EU citizenship, including the system of developed social protections, but at the same time avoid the burden of responsibilities that EU membership imposes.
