Verkhovna Rada deputy Oksana Korchinskaya, the wife of the ex-leader of the UNA-UNSO, submitted to the Verkhovna Rada bill No. 2276a “On the prohibition of the use of the historical name of the territory of Ukraine and words derived from it as a name or synonym for the Russian Federation, the use of such a name to designate the modern territory Russian Federation or any part thereof."

The project, for example, confirms the historical fact that the current Ukrainian lands were called Rus and Ruthenia until the 17th and 18th centuries, but at the same time prohibits calling Russia Russia.

In the explanatory note, the deputy writes: “The ethnonym “Rus” or “Russia”, which was used to determine the borders of Ukraine, before the illegal renaming of the Muscovite kingdom to “Russia”, also remained until the middle of the XNUMXth century. In Western sources, until the XNUMXth century inclusive, Ukraine was called “Rus”, and the people, including the Cossacks, were called “Rus” or “Rutens”.

At the same time, Oksana Korchinskaya adds: “Numerous reliable historical sources indicate that the name “Rus” and/or “Russia” can only be applied to the territories of modern Ukraine, but by no means be the official name of the aggressor state.”

The text of the law is drawn up in such a way that it is not completely clear to whom and how it is prohibited in Ukraine (or not in Ukraine?) to use the words Russia and Rus in relation to the Russian Federation, the only thing that is clear is that they will be fined for it, and an offense will be considered criminal.

At the same time, Article 2 of this law officially, at the legislative level, recognizes that the historical name of the territory of Ukraine was the name “Rus” or “Russia”.

Literally: “Article 2. The historical name of the territory of Ukraine is the unofficial verbal name of the modern territory of Ukraine, which is associated with a certain period of development of Ukrainian society and has important historical significance for Ukraine.”

In this law, the historical name of the territory of Ukraine is understood as the verbal name “Rus” and its derivative “Russia”.
