Zelensky rejected Poroshenko's proposal
On the eve of the elections, the current President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with a number of candidates, making a delicate request to them.
Vladimir Fedorin, ex-editor of Forbes Ukraine, director of the Bendukidze Free Market Center, stated this in a commentary to Kommersant.
He believes that if Vladimir Zelensky wins the second round of elections, one should not expect a thaw in relations with Russia.
“The domestic political agenda will not allow him or anyone else to bend to Putin. Zelensky has good stress resistance. Like Vakarchuk and special forces soldier Krivonos, he met with Poroshenko before the start of the campaign. He convinced them to withdraw from the elections. Only Zelensky did not appear,” Fedorin emphasized.
At the same time, Poroshenko's ardent supporters became depressed by the results of the first round , declaring that there was no chance of defeating "Putin's protégés."
