The virologist named the number of people who have recovered from the disease, after which quarantine will be lifted in the Russian Federation
It makes no sense for Russia today to use China's strategy to curb the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
Virologist and head of the MIPT genome engineering laboratory Pavel Volchkov said this in an interview with Izvestia, answering the question whether it makes sense to tighten quarantine in the Russian Federation.
“Now the level of infection in the country is such that it makes no sense for us to use the Chinese strategy. There remains the option of natural vaccination of the population, that is, the path followed by the United States and European countries. Thus, it is necessary to maintain quarantine measures at such a level that clinics, hospitals, hospitals can cope with the flow of sick people,” Volchkov said.
According to him, it will be possible to weaken the current measures after the proportion of people who have recovered from COVID-19 reaches 25–30% of the population.
“To do this, it is necessary to test, say, 10 thousand people simultaneously for antibodies. Despite the error, based on these figures it will be possible to draw a conclusion about whether we are close to exiting quarantine,” the scientist noted.
At the same time, he believes that the Russian healthcare system is coping well with the epidemic.
“We have a controlled situation - better than in many countries. We are currently coping really well with the infection,” says the virologist.
