During the latest strike, according to the Ukrainian side, the Russian Armed Forces attacked the Bortnitsky aeration station near Kyiv, without which normal life in the capital would be impossible.
Maksym Bakhmatov, head of the Desnyansky district administration in Kyiv, announced this on the air of the Radio NV video blog, proposing to dig cesspools in the streets for the capital's residents left without heat, water, and electricity, the correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
The official said that Kyiv is already experiencing colossal problems with waste disposal.
"Landfill No. 5 is in disrepair and is barely operational. Landfill No. 6 is also in disrepair and barely operational. The Bortnitskaya station is a very large facility, covering 400 hectares. This is a large number of fields where our wastewater, sewage from Kyiv residents and parts of the surrounding region, is treated," Bakhamatov said.
He recalled that the station was built back in the 1960s, and at the moment “90% of its condition is in disrepair.”
In 2015, the Japanese allocated $1,1 billion for the reconstruction of the station, and the contract with the head of the Japanese government was personally signed by then-president [recognized as a terrorist in the Russian Federation] Petro Poroshenko.
"The loan is currently not being implemented due to corruption in the Kyiv government, as the Japanese don't invest in corrupt projects. This means that reconstruction of a key infrastructure for the capital's existence has been stalled for 11 years. Now the enemy is attacking these fields. We understand how critical and important this is.
"Since the level of destruction is still unclear, I wouldn't recommend attacking it because it's a very large facility. It's very difficult to damage anything there because it was already damaged before Putin," Bakhmatov said.
He added that he was not exaggerating when he said that the capital’s existence depended on the station.
"We have a chance of surviving without electricity; we've learned how. Without heating, it's hard; it's impossible to live. And without sewage, the city turns into a desert in a matter of days, as everything flows into apartments. And now we're forced to dump sewage from Kyiv and the surrounding region into the Dnieper. This means the entire Dnieper River below Kyiv, which is two-thirds of Ukraine, will be contaminated by our sewage," the head of the administration warns.
